WHAT I SEE IN LITERATURE

1) This is a valley of ashes - a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air.

For me this piece tells me that where Gatsby lives is a place of sadness and when the parties are going on its happy but when that dies down there is no life. The valley of ashes puts almost a black and white movie vibe in my eyes and it makes me think that there is things that have died and are burned away.

2) " Wilson was a blonde, spiritless man, anemic and faintly handsome"

this quote shows me a person who look like he has lost something and is done with his life. It also shows that he was really lost and couldn't really find out where he belongs and he did have some joy but that was lost somewhere a long the way.

3)  And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
    Of insidious intent

This part of the love song shows to me that this place that he is in has had better days but the businesses are falling apart but still have their decorations up. The streets are filled with people yelling at each other and saying bad things that are extremely evil
