A Look Back
A Reflection of this year
Have you ever looked back and asked yourself if you could have done something better? This year in English Class has been a very interesting and surprisingly very enjoyable one. This year has had its ups and downs but for the most part this was a big year for me to grown and learn into what I am at the end of the year. I have learned a lot and have been given a lot of information that I really haven’t taken advantage of even though I should have. There is going to be 7 elements of that things that we talked about spread throughout this essay about the things that happened and the things that I have personally learned about this year in my English class.
This year in class was all about communication and learning to trust one another in a new way. We have been treated as colleagues and had some very big choices in the way that we learned and the way the course was even being taught. Also, we have been given such an important level of trust. I feel that at times we really deserve the trust but sometimes we just abused this power and just didn’t do the work that we were supposed to. Some people had this trust all year but some lost it. I feel that we all earned it but sometimes we really didn’t honor it. Sometimes we are giving a certain amount of trust and we either keep it or lose it no matter what.
The characters that we were reading about felt real even though they were fiction but some felt real. “The lie that tells the truth” is a perfect way to describe some of the characters such as Montag who realized that technology can make people blind to emotion and feelings. The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald is a novel that shows many various parts of society like the rich but the miserable, Gatsby, or the pretend that everything in the world is positive even though you are sad, Daisy. I feel that Montag kind of showed a part me because I can see that everyone loves and pays more attention to their phone more than their friends. Richard Cory was also a character that is very like how I am in the way that he keeps things to himself and doesn’t really need to show a lot to people. The way that the authors of these books and poems used diction and syntax was so well because it made the characters on paper feel so real and genuine. Sometimes I feel that through books and movies we can find ourselves in characters that are just made up.
Sometimes things that we love or find enjoyable can be forgotten but then brought back better than ever and predictions can be so scary that they become reality. This year I have been going back to listening to music a lot because in 7th and 8th grade I would always have my iPod on but freshman and sophomore year I didn’t really listen to music I just started to just leave my phone home and throw away my headphones. One of the things that made really laugh was that the events that were happening in the book Fahrenheit 451 were starting to happen in our real time and the book was already old so the author Ray Bradbury was able to predict such thing is crazy and really funny if you think about it. The fact that something from a sci fi book can start to happen is crazy.
There are many ways and things to teach but sometimes people think alike and can create something different and be so similar. In the masterpiece academy presentations, many people went but some of them could be considered similar such as Adrian and Elias’s presentations were similar because of the way they talked in front of the class and the topics of not really giving up on your goals and sticking to them. Another similar presentation was Alex and Luis’s because they both talked about clothes and both showed examples of different websites that you could go to start your own type of business. I also felt that Jaime’s presentation about lasagna was like Isaias’s presentation about makeup more because of the way they were presented in seeing the steps and then the final product. I feel that my own presentation on the impact of music was like Victor’s presentation on religion because I let the music play to show my message while he read exerts from the various books to explain his message. A lot of the presentations were similar in the sense that they would talk for a little big and then play a video. Also, Satchel and Angle’s presentations were similar because they both had riddles in them. Ever though you can see similarities these presentations were good and different.
In life, we must go through things that almost feel like a fairy tale and we are either the hero or the villain. I don’t really know if I am the hero because I think that there was room for improvement many times but I never took any chances or tried anything different but maybe. I feel that I tried every time that we had to do something I didn’t really want to be the minimum I want to kind of go beyond. I never really found a mentor but there is always people who inspire me and I feel that this class has helped me conquer the challenge of being quiet because I started to talk a lot more even with my friends even though most of the time I am the quiet one. Sometimes the things that seem the hardest can be the easiest if you practice and find something that inspires you to try harder.
This year was fun because of the way that Dr. Preston made and structured this course. This course required so much trusted between the students and the teacher that for some could seem that it was too much freedom and a bad idea which sometimes it was but most of the time it was fine. We, the students, at times had to do things that were out of our comfort zone and speak up even if we didn’t want we just had to. This course also made me think that working as a team could help whenever than just thinking by yourself. This course at times was really frustrating and at time boring but the times that were exciting and extremely special made all of the bad things go away this course is very special and I am extremely grateful for having the teacher that I had and the classmates that I had because everyone in that room made it special.

WE EAT SOCIAL MEDIA FOR BREAKFAST

Do you every think that posting a picture is dumb or do you do just cause? In this essay we get the opinion from Dr.Preston about us just using social media to post about dumb things then actually using it to communicate and talk to each other. Taking the example of people just posting their meals other that actually sitting down and enjoying and using it to show us that we live in a world where people don't really communicate but just message and send pictures to instead of doing things in the real world. While some people say that they do not use social media that is kinda of a lie because everyone does but some are just on it for no reason just cause everyone else is. In this essay we will be analyzing the diction, syntax, tone, and rhetorical strategies that the author used.

In this paragraph we will be analyzing the authors use of diction and syntax. The author arranges the words in such a way that everything is in a spot that make so much sense and so every thing is flowing very well and all makes sense. The author's use of diction is very good because he uses simple words and doesn't over complicate anything and make it easy for the reader to understand and to read. These words are arranged so well that it feels really good to actually sit down and read this essay and it also doesn't use big words to confuse the readers. The author's use of diction and syntax is really good and helps make the essay even better.

Next we are going to be talking about the author's tone towards the readers and towards the topic. We can see that the author has found something in the world that he feels isn't very good because he shows through his words that he would much prefer a face to face conversation over some texts back and forth. The author thinks that people are using social media in the wrong way and are using it for reasons like posting a picture of their food instead of actually using it to communicate with other people and interacting for work. The author's tone towards this subject is almost confused or concerned because social media is taking over people's lives. Now we are going to see the author's rhetorical strategies that are used in his essay.

The author's use of rhetorical strategies is so good. The author compares posting a picture to Instagram or Snapchat to going to a store and giving them the film to then develop the pictures. He states that there is no use of film anymore and that everyone just has it backed up onto their phones and that there was some sort of magic to getting a physical copy of a picture other than seeing it on our phone or anything else. The way we got pictures before social media and now are extremely different because we had to go out and buy film but now we can take 100 pictures in a couple of seconds and they are sometimes not even that special anymore. The author uses these rhetorical strategies to show his point that social media has made people not really find any special things in pictures and communicating with others.

The author has a very special way of using diction, syntax, tone, and rhetorical strategies  The diction and syntax is used very well that the readers do not get lost and confused. The author's tone towards the topic is very concerned that people who are using social media will loss the way they talk with people in the real world and just talk to people on social media platforms. He uses rhetorical strategies to show that there are some importance in the old ways of doing things in this world instead of just posting a picture of our breakfast and hoping some will see it. The author uses there strategies in great ways to make his point more relevant in a world where every one is consumed by social media.

EXPERIENCE #3

i had an idea that for my little cousins that in one of the eggs that they would get for Easter I would put one just like some rocks in it but I thought about it and said it i was little and got an egg with rocks in it I would be so pissed so I just said what ever and put candy onstead

EXPERIENCE #2

during spring break I had a bad thing happen and that was that my dog passed away and for me that thing was everything and having to go through that was something that almost felt unreal and the fact that I didn't really feel that same was hard to get over but in the end I had to get over it and try to figure out what happens in the future

EXPERIENCE #1

over the spring break the guitar orchestra had a trip and we had to wake up way too early so I woke up an hour and a half before we left at 6:15 and so I thought that if i get there to early it would be weird and if I get there to late then the bus would be gone so this experience helped me improve my time management skills.

Fahrenheit 451 Essay

OPTION 1: Describe the difference in Ray Bradbury's tone with regard to Clarisse & Beatty. Support your analysis with examples of Bradbury'diction and details.

Could you every picture a world where if you had a book are even enjoyed reading that it was illegal? In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, there is a distant future where keeping books or reading is considered illegal and firefighters instead of putting out fires now go out and start fires. The main character, Montag , who is a firefighter, meets a young girl named Clarisse who is always super suspicious of every thing and bun bards Montag with tons of questions. Since Montag is a firefighter at the station there is a captain and his name is Beatty, he has a hatred towards books more than anyone else and is someone to be feared of. Bradbury shows both of the characters in completely different lights Clarisse as the positive in the story and he shows Beatty as the negativity in the story.

Clarisse is used by Bradbury as a character who shows to Monatag that the world isn't just about being stuck and just sitting there and letting technology rule your life. Clarisse showed to Montag that people are having there emotions be numbed and letting technology like earbuds and tvs rule their lives. Through Clarisse, Montag when reading books he found through her words that there is something inside of books and it made him look at the world in a different life. When Clarisse and her family goes missing Montag is the only person that actually kinda cared and noticed even Montag's wife didn't even care or even know who she was. In the Clarisse even if she didn't have a large role in the story impacted the character of Montag from someone who is scared to show his love of book to someone who sees the deep and bigger meaning of books.

Beatty is a character who is almost shown as the bad guys for doing his job and hating on book just like everyone else. Beatty being the captain at the fire station has a relationship with Montag and has seen people turn into what Montag is becoming. Beatty is the character the Montag is most afraid of because of his power and how with a simple push of a button he could have every one in the entire country on his butt trying to kill him. In the end Beatty was treated to a very hot death and it gave Montag some sort of relief but did it really have to be that way.

Clarisse and Beatty are characters that Bradbury used to show the light and dark side of the future that Montag is living in and something that can be some sort of warning to us. Clarisse shows us the readers that the world that is presented to us is something that could happen and she is something special because in a world with all this board um and numbness she is someone who brings a positive vibe to this whole thing. Beatty shows to us that this world has created people who have just lost their ways and have just gotten angry for no reason. These 2 characters are some of the biggest reasons for Montag to make certain decisions on his journey.

RUN MONTAG RUN

I feel that the book will end with Montag getting captured and they are going to interrogate him to see why is he getting so worked up about all of the books.

THE CHASE IS ONE

1. The hound went after Montag because he had just killed Beatty.

2. Montag defended himself by using the flamethrower on the hound.

3. Montag realized that Beatty wanted to die because he didn't defend himself.

4. Montag is trying to get the Faber's house to try and warn him before it is too late.

5. Montag fell in the street as things were trying to look for him.

MONTAG KILLS

I fell that Montag kills Beatty because he is thinking to himself that there is no way out of this and he has something to prove.

F 451 PART 1 QUESTIONS

1. I feel the Bradbury started the book this way cause he wanted to show us where the world and this character of Montag is. They might think that seeing things burn is very pressure able because it is something that they have control of .

2. Books are being compared to birds because when a book is spread out it could look like a bird or because birds are sometimes thought of mindless thing that no one really likes.

3. Montag lives his life very straight forward not really questioning thing and not really having any emotion and just starts to freak out in his but Clarisse on the other hand wants to figure things out and discover and care about people like her family.

4. I feel that the technology inside the story is way more advanced than the stuff that we have today but some are very similar to what we have.I dont think that they do because it makes them more occupied on that stuff then paying attention on each other.

5. I think that maybe the narrator feel that this is the point in montag's life that we are going to see a big change.

6. I feel that The author introduced Clarisse way earlier than Mildred because Clarisse ends up having that most impact to Montag further down the line.

7. All the houses are fireproof in this society because they want it so fire fighters don't have to put out fire they have to start them.

8. Mildred overdosed on some pills and they send 2 guys that don't really care about helping people to her aid.

9. The mechanical hounds purpose is to seek out people who are finding something and inject something into them.

10. Society thinks of Clarisse as "anti-social" because she questions every thing unlike very one else who just expects what happens and doesn't question it

11. She lights the match when her house is getting raided because she feels that the books that she has are way more important that her own life.

12. The relationship between Montag and Mildred is almost depressing because they don't really show their feelings about each other and they just kinda of use the technology around them to talk to or ignore each other.

13. The purpose of Beatty's visit was to talk Montag that every firefighter goes thorugh a period of time in their life that this happens.

14.I don't really think that books violate the idea of every one being equal.

15. Montag feels fat because he isn't really doing anything and is just sleepin

F451 PART 2 QUESTION

1. Montag has some how came up with a sudden respect for books and the time and passion that is put into them by the authors and Mildred is just saying that the books are just worthless and hurt people

2. In section 1 the bombers that flew over made Montag feel even more nervious about the fact that Mildred just tried to kill herself  but in section 2 Montag starts to get annoyed by them and is starting to question why they fly over and why are they even still around.

3. Professor Faber was a retired English professor who had been homeless for around 40 years.

4. Montag reacts by almost going crazy and yelling at the screen to shut up and i think he did this because he is starting to pay more attention to the world around him and is starting to see that every thing is super super repetitive and annoying and it can drive you crazy.

5. Faber says that books have a deeper meaning that just words and that a book can go under a microscope and you would find life in the book.

6. The small green object is something that Montag can uses so Faber can talk to him

7. The clown show shows us that people in this society are pretty much mindless

8. She crys because she can feel the emotion coming out from words

9. His destination after reading to Mildred's friends is the fire station even though Faber told him not to.
